Bangladesh stun South Africa

What happened today?:Bangladesh V South Africa
Today in WC2007 match Bangladesh shocked world number one-ranked South Africa with a 67-run victory in the World Cup Super Eights on Saturday, an outcome which has turned the tournament on its head. The Bangladeshis followed their World Cup record total of 251 for eight by dismissing the South Africans for 184 at the aptly named Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Abdur Razzak to Ntini, OUT, Do you know what that means : The players hug each other. This is definitely bigger than the win against India. SA were ranked no 1. No longer though. Now they slip to the second position. Tossed-up on the stumps, Ntini tries to flick it to the on side, gets a leading edge which balloons over cover. Mortaza runs back and takes it. The players mob each other. Stumps are grabbed as souvenirs. The show has just begun for Bangladesh. The celebrations will go long in the night in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh. They have a devoted contigent who live outside the country. This will be a special moment to all of them.

My Feb Indian Cricket Player

Just wanted to let you know little bit detail about my feborite Indian Cricket player.

Sachin Tendulkar
India

Full name: Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
Born: April 24, 1973, Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra
Current age: 33 years 348 days
Major teams: India, ACC Asian XI, Mumbai, Yorkshire
Nickname :Tendlya, Little Master
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak googly
Height: 5.05 ft
Education: Sharadashram Vidyamandir School

Player's Profile

When he became the first batsman to score 50 hundreds in international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar established himself as the greatest of all Indian cricketers. Recognised by Sir Donald Bradman as his modern incarnation, Tendulkar has a skill - a genius - which only a handful have possessed. It was not a skill that he was simply born with, but one which was developed by his intelligence and an infinite capacity for taking pains. If there is a secret, it is that Tendulkar has the keenest of cricket minds. At times in a Test series he looks mortal. But he learns every lesson, picks up every cue, dominates the opposing attack sooner or later, and nearly always makes a hundred. His bravery was proved after he was hit on the head on his Test debut in Pakistan, when he was only 16; and his commitment to the Indian cause has never been in doubt. If captaincy - or rather the off-field management of men less skilled than himself - was beyond him at his first attempt, his reading of the game, and his manifold varieties of bowling, have shown the same acute intelligence. His cricket has been played in the right way too, always attacking, and because he knew that was the right way rather than because he was a child of the one-day age, as he himself modestly said. The awe of opponents was as great as that of crowds. But the finest compliment must be that bookmakers would not fix the odds - or a game - until Tendulkar was out. Surpassed Sunil Gavaskar, his guru, as the leading century-maker in Test cricket with his 35th three-figure score in November 2005.

WC Super 8s taking 2 days break

As the World Cup Super 8s teams take a two-day break for the Good Friday and so much attention and coverage is being given to the National Coaches during this Cricket World Cup, especially to the Coaches of those teams which have already exited from the World Cup I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate today’s Question of the day to all the coaches of teams that participated in this tournament.
Next up is Saturday's South Africa-Bangladesh game, one the Proteas won't want to underestimate, especially as Bangladesh have some good spinners, but will look to dominate and win comfortably. Sunday sees the "Ashes" clash between England and Australia , England need to win to keep control of their qualification destiny. An England win would be a great result to really shake up the tournament, but with Australia's unbeaten run in World Cups being 23 games and counting, they won't exactly be favorites.

WC Cricket Sri Lanka V England

Sri Lanka were on the right side of a thriller, scraping a two run win against England. The result makes England's qualification for the semis quite tricky.

What happened in Sri Lanka v England match: Well, a game with more twists and turns than the TV series Lost. Sri Lanka threatened a big total, got strangled a bit during their innings and posted a very average 235. England got off to a poor start and then KP took over, putting them in a strong position. Then that English speciality took place, a collapse from 126/3 to 133/6, with all the big names out. All seemed to be over, but a partnership between two unheralded players, Nixon and Bopara, took England almost over the line. In the end, Dilhara Fernando, a player with a reputation as a choker, bowled Bopara off fhe last ball to give Sri Lanka a two run win and break English hearts one more time.Sorry I forgot to add that game was on 4th April.

What does this mean?: It was the game that the tournament needed, but not the result. Pundits are already pencilling in the names of Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa as the semi-finalists, and while nothing is decided mathematically or otherwise, this matches result does increase the probability that there will be some dead games at the end of the Super 8s. England's position is not as dire as the bottom three sides in the log, especially with their net run rate being relatively solid, but they will have to beat Australia on Sunday to keep their qualification in their own hands.

Indian Cricket coach

Greg Chappell quits as Indian coach

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The writing was on the wall as Greg Chappell has quit as Indian coach. He said "personal and family reasons" although it's fairly obvious he jumped before he was pushed. He'd already taken on Ganguly and made the fatal (career wise at least) mistake of taking on Tendulkar next.

Till the very end, the Indian coach did not agree that he was a part of the bunch that failed at the World Cup and only continued to play the blame game. If the attitude of the players was not up to the mark, he should have made a point about that before the World Cup and not after the debacle in the West Indies.

The rift and the so-called divide between the seniors and juniors could have been averted (if at all there was one). Chappell should have addressed these problems, or reported it to the BCCI as and when it happened. Using things to his convenience after a bad result does not talk highly of a person who did almost everything as a player and captain right, except instruct his younger brother to bowl underarm to ensure victory at all costs.

Chappell as Indian coach began as a bold experiment filled with promise and a bright future. India even won a few matches early in his tenure. However, the experiment ended in ignominy with India's bow out from the World Cup. I can't imagine anyone wanting the job - the only less desirable role in international cricket right now would be coach of Pakistan.

Cricket World Cup

Pakistan and India lose to minnows

On March 17th Bangladesh defeat India by 5 wickets.I am shocked. I've been talking up Bangladesh lately but for them to defeat India is a huge, huge upset. This after India comfortably defeated home team of West Indies. But the hits just keep on coming as in an even bigger upset, Pakistan lost to Ireland . Stunning!
Are the minnow games having a complacency effect on the Test countries? Or are the players succumbing to the carnival nature of a Caribbean World Cup? There was news that some West Indies players were out clubbing to the wee hours of the morning after game.

But it gets worse (or better from my point of view). Andrew Flintoff had to be rescued, in cricket gear clutching a beer bottle, after capsizing at sea. I can just imagine the "sinking ship" metaphors in the English tabloids. Flintoff has been quoted recently as saying the World cup is as important as the Ashes. The way they've been hitting the bottle, it looks like they're going to be about as successful as they were in the last Ashes.

Pakistan Coach Bob Woolmer dies

Last month on March 18th Pakistan loss to Ireland (hence knocking them out of the World Cup) was a shock and top of that, Bob Woolmer has died. He was found unconscious in his hotel room with blood on him and vomit on the walls. He died later in the hospital.

This is a big tragedy for cricket, particularly for Pakistan cricket. It's hard to know what to make of the news. Was it self inflicted? Doubtful. Was it the work of a crazed fan? It's hard to believe someone would be that fanatical about sport although Monica Seles would disagree. I prefer to have some faith in human nature and think it more likely the unfortunate tragedy of his body succumbing to the pressures of international coaching. To think otherwise is a frightening prospect.
